Mechanic Guidelines

Pedal24 Mechanic Guidelines

Welcome to the Pedal24 community! As a registered mechanic, you are a key part of our mission to connect bike owners with skilled professionals for all their service and repair needs. To ensure consistent quality and a positive experience for both mechanics and customers, we have established the following guidelines. These will help you maintain high standards of service and professionalism while using Pedal24.

1. Account and Profile Setup

  • Accurate Profile Information: Ensure your profile is complete, including accurate and up-to-date information such as your qualifications, services offered, and areas of expertise. A detailed profile helps build trust and attract customers.
  • Verification of Skills and Credentials: If applicable, submit any certifications or proof of experience to Pedal24. This adds credibility to your profile and increases the likelihood of being selected by customers.
  • Profile Picture: Upload a clear, professional photo to enhance trust and appeal to potential customers.

2. Account Eligibility and Legal Requirements

  • Minimum Age Requirement: To offer services on Pedal24, you must be at least 18 years old. Pedal24 cannot enter legal contracts with individuals under the age of 18.
  • ID Verification: All mechanics must complete a thorough identity verification (ID check) when registering.

Legal Eligibility for Self-Employment

Mechanics are considered self-employed, so you must be legally eligible to perform self-employed work in Germany, including the right to earn income.

Rules for Refugees and Asylum Seekers:

    • Initial Restriction: Refugees, asylum seekers, and applicants for asylum cannot work during the first three months of their stay in Germany.
    • After Three Months: You may apply for work, but you must obtain an employment permit from the foreigners’ registration office (“Ausländerbehörde”) and the employment agency’s (“Bundesagentur für Arbeit”) consent. You can only offer services on Pedal24 if self-employment is permitted.
    • After 48 Months: Self-employment remains restricted unless explicitly authorized by relevant authorities, even after 48 months.
    • Residence Permit Holders: Those with residence permits, recognized refugees, and persons with subsidiary protection can legally engage in any form of employment, including self-employment, and are eligible to offer services on Pedal24.

For further guidance, consult the foreigners’ registration office or local refugee support organizations.

3. Earnings Limits in Germany

  • Minor Employment Exemption: If you earn up to €450 per month or €5400 per year, you are generally exempt from health insurance contributions but may still be liable for pension insurance.

Unemployment Benefit Recipients:

    • ALG II (Hartz IV) Recipients: You can earn up to €100 per month without affecting your unemployment benefits. Earnings above this amount will reduce your benefits.
    • ALG I Recipients: If you receive unemployment benefit I, you can earn up to €165 per month. Always inform the employment agency (“Arbeitsagentur”) of any work you undertake.

Make sure to stay informed about applicable regulations, as earning limits may change or vary based on individual circumstances.

4. Registering Your Self-Employment with Tax Authorities

  • Tax Registration: As a self-employed mechanic, you must register with the tax authority (“Finanzamt”) before offering services on Pedal24.
  • Tax Declaration: You are required to declare all earnings from Pedal24 in your annual tax return, even if the income falls below the taxable threshold.
  • Turnover Tax (VAT) Exemption: If your annual earnings are below €17,000 in the first year and below €50,000 in subsequent years, you may be exempt from submitting a VAT declaration. Consult a tax advisor or your local tax office for details.

5. Business Registration with Local Municipality

Depending on the nature and frequency of your work, you may need to register your self-employment as a business (“Gewerbe”) with your local municipality.

  • Business Classification: Business registration is required for ongoing commercial activity aimed at generating profit. Certain professions—such as those in education, art, science, and authorship—are exempt.

If unsure, contact your local trade office (“Gewerbeamt”) for clarification.

6. Prohibited and Illegal Employment

  • Legal Compliance: Both mechanics and customers must ensure that services provided are compliant with German law. Engaging in undeclared work (“Schwarzarbeit”) is strictly prohibited.
  • Tax Compliance: Income earned via Pedal24 must be reported to tax authorities. Concealing income or evading taxes is illegal and can result in severe penalties for both mechanics and customers.

7. Responding to Customer Requests

  • Timely Communication: Respond to service requests promptly. Whether accepting, declining, or seeking clarification, timely responses help maintain professionalism and secure bookings.
  • Clarify Job Details: If a service request lacks sufficient details, ask for clarification upfront to avoid misunderstandings.
  • Custom Quotes: Provide detailed, transparent quotes, including labor costs, part costs (if applicable), and the expected job duration. Communicate any additional costs before starting the job.

 8. Scheduling and Preparation

  • Punctuality: Always be on time for appointments. If delays arise, inform the customer immediately through the Pedal24 messaging system.
  • Preparation: Review the customer’s service request and arrive with all necessary tools and equipment to complete the job efficiently.
  • Respect for Property: Treat customers’ bikes and property with care and respect, as this builds trust and leads to positive reviews.

9. Conducting the Service

  • Workmanship Quality: Provide professional, high-quality services. Whether a simple tune-up or a complex repair, ensure that your work meets industry standards.
  • Professionalism in Communication: Maintain clear and polite communication with customers throughout the job. If issues arise, explain them clearly and offer solutions.
  • Safety First: Follow all safety standards and regulations while performing repairs. Inform customers of any safety concerns related to their bike.
  • Updates and Transparency: Keep customers updated on progress, especially if the job takes longer or additional work is needed.
  • Post-Service Check: Inspect the bike after the service, explain what was done, and confirm customer satisfaction before marking the job as complete.

10. Payment and Invoicing

  • Platform Payments: All payments must be processed through Pedal24’s secure system. Do not accept cash or payments outside the platform.
  • Transparent Pricing: Ensure your pricing reflects the job’s complexity. Communicate clearly about any additional costs before proceeding.
  • Invoicing: Use Pedal24’s invoicing feature to provide an itemized breakdown of services rendered. This helps maintain transparency and reduce disputes.

11. Handling Cancellations and Rescheduling

  • Respectful Cancellations: If you are unable to fulfill a job after accepting it, notify the customer as early as possible. Use the Pedal24 platform to officially cancel or reschedule the job. Repeated cancellations may impact your ratings.
  • Customer Cancellations: In case a customer cancels a service, Pedal24’s cancellation policy will apply. Familiarize yourself with the policy to understand how it impacts your payment.

12. Disputes and Conflict Resolution

  • Preventing Disputes: Open and honest communication helps avoid disputes. If issues arise, address them with the customer and work together to resolve them.
  • Handling Complaints: If a customer is unhappy with your service, listen to their concerns and try to resolve the issue. Escalate unresolved disputes to Pedal24 support for mediation.
  • Support Mediation: Pedal24 support is available to mediate disputes. Provide relevant documentation or evidence to support your case if needed.

13. Customer Feedback and Reviews

  • Encourage Feedback: Positive reviews help you build your reputation. Encourage satisfied customers to leave reviews after their bike service is completed.
  • Responding to Reviews: Respond professionally to all reviews, whether positive or negative. Thank customers for their feedback and address any concerns politely.

14. Professional Growth and Development

  • Continued Learning: Stay updated on the latest tools, techniques, and trends in bike repair to maintain a competitive edge.
  • Expanding Services: As you grow, consider offering additional services. Update your profile to reflect new skills and certifications.

15. Health, Safety, and Environmental Responsibility

  • Health and Safety Protocols: Follow all relevant safety regulations while performing repairs. Keep your workspace clean and use appropriate safety gear when necessary.
  • Environmental Awareness: Consider the environmental impact of your work. Recycle used parts responsibly and offer eco-friendly options where possible.

16. Compliance with Platform Policies

  • Adherence to Rules: By using Pedal24, you agree to follow all platform policies, including our terms of service and privacy policy. Failure to do so may result in suspension or removal from the platform.
  • No Direct Arrangements: All job agreements must be made through Pedal24. Soliciting or accepting jobs outside the platform is strictly prohibited and may result in account termination.
  • Integrity: Maintain honesty and professionalism in all aspects of your work. Misrepresentation of skills, overcharging, or providing substandard service will result in penalties, including potential removal from Pedal24.

Our goal is to foster a cycling community that values reliability, eco-consciousness, and genuine passion for biking.
